A quick poem for a girl

We met one afternoon, at the county fair,
But I went home dazed, and you were unaware.

Not knowing what to think, my feelings stayed quiescent.
But as time went on, thoughts of you became incessant.

We became friends but that was all,
And I still worry if that is all that will befall.

I would round the corner, avid to see you there.
But when the hall was empty, I sank with despair.

I would wait for you, eyes closed at the floor,
You would always arrive when I could take no more.

We would say hello, I’d gaze into your eyes,
But when you looked back, you saw through my disguise.

As all our friends left to walk different ways,
I’d watch you depart leaving me with a craze.

When I got home, I knew it was love,
You were the person I thought the world of.

Falling asleep, I would spend the nights dreaming,
Of you by my side, adoring the feeling.

My nerves have been on edge. I have been waiting until this day,
To tell you my words, And I’m still in disarray.

Thinking to the future, I dreamed of our first kiss,
Where we’d hold each other tight, and I would whisper to you this…

These are the words I can no longer confine,
We are best of friends, but I want you to be mine.

Next time I will try to not rhyme so quickly,
Because more care in the words might stun
And it sometimes leaves the mind better off thinking
Collecting itself until the words come
